HP/WV bests Vernon in Sussex Cup game.

New Years Eve morning saw a match up between HP/WV and Vernon for the Sussex Cup consolation game.  The game was a very close match up between the two teams who were fighting for redemption.  HP/WV gave Vernon plenty of powerplay opportunities but luckily for the Wildcats Vernon was unable to capitalize.  The game came down to two short handed break away goals by JJ Welch which won the game for the Wildcats.  The Wildcats now stand at 3-5 and are looking to turn their season around with the new year.

The annual alumni game was once again a huge success raising some money for the program.  The game ended with Grey beating Red by a score of 12-10.  All former teams were represented on the ice at the game.

HP/WV continues its slide against two tough opponents

High Point/Wallkill played 2 tough games in less than a week against West Milford and Sparta.  The game against West Milford saw HP/WV leading into the 2nd period.  Unfortunately for the WIldcats West Milford turned their game around never looked back.  After taking the lead in the 2nd period West Milford went onto win 7-2.  In Sussex Cup action HP/WV drew the hardest team in the tournament, Sparta.  The Wildcats were no match for the Spartans who went on to win 9-0.  Bryce Gebauer did his best to spark the team by getting into a tussle with one of the Spartan players but it was not enough to change the outcome of the game.  The Wildcats next game is on New Years Eve with a time and opponent TBD due to last nights weather.

Friday nights normal game slot this week will feature a blast from the past when the High Point Alumni take the ice in the annual alumni game.  Come out and support the past Wildcats players as they show their skills (or whats left of them) in this fun annual event.  Game time is 6:50pm at Skylands.

High Point/Wallkill falls to NLV

Last Friday was a disappointing night for the Wildcats and their fans.  The game was closer on the ice than on the score sheet.  Although being out shot and down 3-0 going into the 3rd period the game was well in hand.  However the 3rd period didn't fall the way of the Wildcats. The final score would end up being 6-0.  Although the outcome was disappointing the Wildcats have no time to dwell on past games.  The next two games are against two very strong opponents in West Milford on Friday Dec. 21 and a Sussex Cup game against Sparta on Wednesday Dec. 26.  Come out and support the Wildcats as they skate against these two local rivals.  Puck drops at 5:50pm on Friday and 6:00pm on Wednesday.

HP/WV is at .500 4 games in

High Point/Wallkill Valley hockey has a .500 record 4 games into the 2012/2013 season.  The season opened with a 4-3 comeback victory over Governor Livingston on Friday Nov. 30.  Andrew Reeves was given a rare 2nd chance to win the game late in the 3rd period and converted for the victory.

The 2nd game and first road trip of the season on Monday Dec 3rd proved to be disappointing against division rival Hudson Catholic.  The Wildcats would fall in that game 3-1 for a long bus trip back from Jersey City.

That next Wednesday Dec. 5th would once again be a disappointing road game and a loss to Gill St. Bernards Academy 5-2.  The only highlight of the game was the opposing coach was 3 time Stanley Cup champion former New Jersey Devil Scott Stevens, Coach Dearolf was not pleased.

Saturday Dec 8th proved to be a comeback for the Wildcats who were facing a longtime rival in Vernon HS.  The fans were almost as nasty as the players on the ice.  The back and forth game went into the 3rd period tied at 4-4, but ended in  victory for the Wildcats with a 7-4 final.

This Friday the Wildcats take on another long time rival in Newton-Lenape.  This is another divisional game and the Wildcats cans use all the fan support they can get.  So come to Skylands Ice World for a 5:50 puck drop.

If you would like to join the newly formed Red Army Supporters group for the hockey team find Brad Seo or Jason Welch at High Point or Josh Rogoff at Wallkill Valley and ask them how to get involved.

Pre season tune up ends in win.

High Point/Wallkill took on Morris Catholic in a pre season tune up for the 2012-2013 season.  The game ended  6-3 in favor of the Wildcats.  Scoring came from many different players across the roster which is a welcome sign for the upcoming season.  The Wildcats were backstopped by all 3 goalies in the win, the full game stats are below.  The Wildcats open up the regular season at home this Friday Nov. 30 against Governor Livingston High School puck drops at 5:50pm at Skylands Ice world.
